Freshmen Are Annoying?

Yes, this is another rant blog...  BUT I feel the need to do this.
This experience happened to me today.  I was walking to my seminary class (it's a scripture study class that I thoroughly enjoy).  While I was walking there (it's in a separate building from my school) I overheard a conversation between a boy and girl walking right behind me that irked me quite a bit.
Basically, in a nut shell, they were talking about how freshmen in high school were annoying, immature brats that don't deserve to be here because they're trash and don't belong in a school filled with older; mature people like themselves.
I was very shocked to hear this, especially since they, along with myself, were heading to a SCRIPTURE STUDY CLASS where students go to not only learn more about our religion but also to love one another and treat others the way we want to be treated...
But, more so than shocked, I was EXTREMELY irritated.  Yes, freshmen can be annoying and immature.  I know, I happen to be one.  But, unlike those two, I'm not a stuck up whelp.  On that note I now officially dub you two random strangers, the King and Queen of Egocentrism.  Congratu-freaking-lations!  I'm so sorry us plebeians can't live up to your standards.  In fact, as an apology for living, I'll gladly give you two high-fives to your faces...  with my high heels.
My point on this is: yes, freshmen can be annoying.  But it's not just us.  It's the whole world that's obnoxious,  and unfortunately, for the people trying to be kind and set a good name for themselves, there are people *cough*The King/Queen of Egocentrism*cough* that screw it up for us and judge everything you do, wear, and say unfairly.  They themselves were freshmen once, so in what world do they find it okay to insult the current freshmen?   *cough*hypocrites*cough*.
Please stop.  Yes, freshmen can be annoying but in reality, you're being worse than us because your head is filled with self-centered thoughts that will one day drag you down.  And guess what, one of us "lowly freshmen" might become your employer one day...  So just be kind, your life will be better and you'll make the people around you happier.

Question of the Day: What's the most irritating conversation you've ever overheard?

Odd Dream Alert!

Sooooooooooooo For one of my writing assignments from dear sweet mommy is to tell you guys about the most recent dream I've had...  Lucky for you guys, I had one last night.  But, before you read my dream, please realize something: I never have good dreams.  My brain has decided that I'm limited to either really weird dreams or crazy scary nightmares...  never amazing dreams about landing on a cloud of cotton candy and dancing with unicorns...  Oh NO!!!  I get the random ones that make you wonder "what the heck just happened?!"
Aaaaaanyways, last night's dream was a weird one...  not a scary one...  thank goodness!  Onto the story!

So from what I can remember, My dream took place in some sort of supermarket.  I was shopping for boxer briefs with my friend Pebble.  Anywho, after a good three hours, we both looked at each other and realized we couldn't read/understand the signs, 'cause they were all in chicken opera.  Whenever we passed under one of the signs indicating what the isle held, a chicken would start singing (in chicken).  But, because of this, Pebble and I were really confused as to where the boxer briefs were.  So, we went to talk with the manager, Usachan.  Who then tried to point us to wear the boxer briefs were held.  But, neither of us spoke bunny, so we just kinda inched away.  Eventually, we found the baby section which held dipers filled with nutella.  Next to a box of Huggies, we found a hobo who was looking for his Llama.  After an hour of looking for the poor guy's llama, we found out that the hobo was the llama... he had short term memory loss.  We asked the hobo if he could direct us to wear the boxer briefs were.  He was very helpful, and we were able to find them.  But, while were were trying to find just the right pair.  Kitty busted through the isle, wearing hot pink, Hello Kitty boxers on her head, shouting, "HEEEEEEEELP!!!  IT'S GOT ME!!!!"  And then, she proceeded to throw herself to the ground in despair of being eaten alive by her ravenous boxer briefs.

Aaaaaaand that's about all I remember.  Anyways, I'm sorry for how random my dream was but I don't control them, my brain does...

Question of the Day: What was your most recent dream?  OR!  What is the most random dream you've ever had?

You are what you eat

People say all the time
"You are what you eat."
But the last time I ate an AirHead was one or two years ago...
Sheesh!  How long does it take for that stuff to wear off?!

On that note, lately I've been in love with carrots.  And frozen bananas.  No really, I just can't seem to get enough of either... Does that mean I'm going to develop a pale orange hue?  Like a Creamcicle?  Better yet, will I taste like one?  ORANGE BANANA/CARROT FLAVORED CREAMCICLE ON DEMAND!!!  YEAH!!!
What if I ate only blueberries and turned blue like Veronica What's-her-face from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" or would I turn a plesent purple, like they turn my oatmeal in the morning...  OH OH OH!!!  Now I want a big costco sized bowl of purple oatmeal....  Nuuuuummy...  Puuuuurrrrple oatmeal...  How does that mix with orange?

Question of the day:  If you are what you eat, what food would you be...  Or what color are you turning?
(Also, what IS Veronica's last name?)

Rude, Judgmental girl vs my flipflop

Ok, so I know I've done a lot of "what my brain is thinking" blogs, but, I feel that they're a big part of me and I want to share what I feel with y'all.
But, anywho, just this last Thursday, I heard this conversation going on behind me.  Also, I did know the girl...  I'm not fond with her.   This is what she said, and also what I was thinking.

Girl: *thinks she's whispering* OMG does that girl think she's too cool for real shoes?  I can't stand wearing flipflops, even in summer.  They're just so #@*! annoying!  OMG I know that girl.  She's so weird! *goes on to tell her friend all about how weird and obnoxious I am*
(Note: She needs some soap for that nasty mouth of hers.)

Brain: First off; do you think I can't hear you?  You're walking right behind me, in a pretty much empty hallway, mind you, not to mention "whispering" extremely loud!  Oh, oh you think I'm wearing these too feel superior to you?  Actually, I broke my big toe, so,  if you're trying to "correct" my shoe choice for when my toe has been abused, I'll abuse your face (with my flipflop...or, even better, a high heel)!  And yes, yes I am weird just as you're a judgmental brat that is convinced you run the fruiting world!  Naaaaaaaaw I won't deal with your crap.

5 Minute Journal

For English, I had to write a 5 Minute Journal Entry.  Basically, you write whatever come to your mind non stop for 5 minutes and if you can't think of anything to write, you write, "I don't know what to write".
I kind of consider this a part two of sorts for my last post...  Basically I am giving you just a taste of what I think in 5 minutes...  But I wrote this on paper first so It's a bit short...  I can't write near as quickly as I think...

Tuesday, March 18, 2014
Cheep cheep cheep.  I can't believe I forgot to care about the Oscars and still don't!  Now that I think about it, Rocks aren't very good pets because if I throw them at people I get in lots of trouble.  WORM PORN!!!  In my opinion, the Olympics need some legitimate winter sports like snow shoveling.  If Goofy and Pluto are both dogs, why can't Pluto talk?  I wonder if Pluto is still sad about not being a planet anymore...  My hand hurts.  My toe has been abused as of late.  What is Obama having for dinner?  What is Brian Reagan thinking right now?  Oh look a notebook!  Appa!  I'm using a pen.  Handshakes are weird.  Saying "I used too" doesn't make any sense.

TADA!!!  This is a small fraction of what goes on in my brain in five minutes.

Question of the day:  This is more of a request; but take five minutes and write non stop, just like I did, submit your entries in the comments!  I'd love to see your thoughts.

Why My Brain Shouldn't be a Person

(Warning: Really random examples ahead.  If you don't like my thoughts when edited, you certainly won't like them when in the raw.)

Soooooooo when it comes to being a teenager, more often than not, I hear teens say that sometimes they wish their brains could be people. That way, they'd have someone who truly understands them and what not.  While that may be true for them. I, on the other hand, am extremely happy that my brain is silent to the rest of the world...

For instance, I can't count how many times I'll be walking through the school hallway (or anywhere really) and some random person will walk up to me and be like: "Hi Alli! Remember me from kindergarten?"  Out loud I'm like, "Yeah, totally!  Oh my gosh I haven't seen you in so long!" while my brain is thinking, "Who are you...  are you a stalker?  How do you know my name?  Why do I not remember you...  OR YOUR NAME!"  And then it proceeds to throw itself onto the ground in despair because my memory sucks.

Another example is when I'm in class...  My teachers would HATE my brain!
Teacher: .........And that class is a semipermeable membrane........
Brain: *off in lala land singing* speederman speederman does what old Mc. Donnald said...  AND THE POT-GUTS COME AT NIIIIIIIIGHT WITH THEIR FEET AS SOFT AS THUNDEEEEEER!!!
Teacher: And next time we're going to learn about worm reproduction!
Brain: But this is craaaaaaaazy!  But here's my...  Oooooooo I wonder if worms ever teach their little wormies about human reproduction but find talking about worm reproduction awkward...  HUMANS ARE HYPOCRITES!!!  Hehe next time we're going to be studying worm porn...

When little kids are talking to me...
kid: Idahsuigfdgfnhbvuydhgvioefjvhaf8eiorgeahygugiporea...
Brain: Smile and nod...  Smile and nod... (cause I have no clue what they're saying).

Another reason is that a lot of the time, when my friends and I are watching TV, I'm normally the one stuck with the remote...  meaning that my brain is put under a huge amount of stress that is pretty much unnecessary...
Brain: I love this show...  I bet everyone wishes I'd switch to a different show...  A PERSON JUST BREATHED!!!  OH MY GOSH THEY HATE IT!  THEY MUST HATE ME!  How long till everyone walks out because I'm boring them with one of my favorite shows *cries*...  Will we still be able to be friends after this?

But yeah, these are just a few instances in which I am so very grateful that my brain isn't a person...  I have to think SOOOOOOO hard even before I say some very simple thing because my brain gets that off track...  I'm sorry if this isn't the kind of post you were looking for...  But you know what?  I don't care (sassy much?).

Question of the day:  Do you wish your brain was a person?  Why or Why not?  Also, write the first thing that pops into your mind as a closer...  just 'cause.

My answer: Appa yip yip! (... To be fair that wasn't that imaginative...  I just saw my Appa plush on top of the printer...)  Spoon...

The Toilsome Labors of Blogging

You wanna know something?
BLOGGING IS HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's so hard to find something to tell you guys that is new, interesting and creative.  It's an awkward, toilsome, process that requires you to utilize all your imaginative processes, your memories of stuff you've done and experiences that you've had you think that your readers (and yourself) might find interesting.
Many people, including me before I started blogging, seem to believe that blogging is just this magical thing that just happens if you sit at a key board and type all sorts of rubbish.  I mean, yes, you can do that, but that's not how good stories and blogs come to be.  They happen through experience, hard work, and devotion.  Three elements many people lack very much of.
You first have to find a topic to talk about...  This, my friends, is where I personally struggle the most!  Like I stated before, it's difficult to find stuff to write about that I think will interest you guys that is at least even the tiniest bit original.
Then, you have the actually writing process.  Writing just starts as you just writing whatever pops in your head (that also has to do with your topic).  You don't pay attention to spelling, grammar, and organization.  This step is called a "first draft".  More often than not, your first draft is complete rambling and your spelling and grammar is all over the place.  There is almost no point to your writing.  It's just flat out disastrous and messy...  like your room after Christmas...  No order to it: clothes, presents and lots of other rubbish claiming your living space.
Well, just like your room, you gotta clean that hot mess up.  Yes, it'll probably be a long, painstaking process that'll take forever and a day.  BUT it's worth it.  Take my word on this.  Yes, editing and revising over and over again is a pain in the grass but, when your finished, you have an awesome story/blog/script, whatever you might be writing.

The Winchester Labyrinth

So while I was surfing the web I came across an AMAZING piece of architecture that also has a really cool story to it.

It's known as the Winchester Mansion (located in San Jose, California).

Though if I were to name it I would have called it the "Winchester Labyrinth".

Why?

You'll find out why soon enough.

The house originally belonged to Mrs. Sarah Winchester (the heiress to the Winchester fortune).  After her husband and daughter died, Mrs. Winchester visited a medium (a person who claims to be able to be in contact with the spirits of the dead).  The medium told her that she was being haunted by all the spirits that had ever been killed with a Winchester riffle, and the only way to stop the "hauntings" was to continuously add onto her house...  and never stop...  Not surprisingly, Mrs. Winchester did just that, until the day she died, renovations on the house were CONSTANTLY being made.

Mrs. Winchester may have been trying to confuse the spirits that haunted her but since there was no deadline for the house to be finished on many features of the house were either dismantled, built around or sealed over.  If those hadn't been sealed over, the mansion is estimated to have about 500-600 NORMAL rooms (so not including the bedrooms and ballrooms), but because so many were blocked up, only 160 remain!!!!!!  What's crazy about though is that because many of the rooms are blocked up, the house has many odd features such as: stairs that lead into the ceiling, doors that lead to nowhere or open into walls, and chimneys that don't even reach the roof!!!!!!

The house was under constant renovations for a little over 38 years until the day Mrs. Winchester died. Aside from the many rooms blocked off in the house, the Winchester Mansion contains 160 rooms, 40 bedrooms, 950 doors, 52 skylights, 40 staircases, 47 fireplaces, 17 chimneys, 2 ballrooms, 2 basements, and 3 elevators!!!!!!

(This is a picture of one of the ballrooms...  Well...  part of it...)

Today, the Winchester "Labyrinth" offers tours through 110 of the 160 rooms, but watch out, they say that if you leave you group you'll NEVER find your way out!!!!!!

OH!!!  And there is this one room that has only one way into it but three ways out:  a door that drops into the kitchen, a cupboard that lead to a secret room behind it, and a door that lead to a cupboard that lead to another room!!!!!!

Seriously though, I'd LOVE to visit this place, it sound soooooooooo cool!!!!!!

Question of the Day:  If you could go to any place, where would you go?  What's the freakiest palace you've ever heard about (that you'd never want to visit)?
Me: (Gonna answer the second question) There's a place called Doll Island...  Maybe I should blog about that tomorrow...  What do y'all think?

Audrey and Aiden go to the Dentist

Today, Audrey, Aiden and Mom had their dentist appointments!

...Guess who was stuck babysitting the kidlets?

OHOHOHOHOH I KNOW I KNOW!!!!!!!!

Me...

For Audrey this was her second going to the dentist office.  She was an angel almost the whole time.  She enjoyed having a lot of cool gadgets shoved into her mouth...

Her favorite part though was getting her strawberry fluoride stuff. Afterwards, she was BEGGING the nurse to let her do the whole process again!!!  But while we were waiting for mom to be done with her dentist appointment she was throwing a tantrum and screaming at anything and everything...

Anywho, Aiden was a different story...  HE WAS A NIGHTMARE!!!  I felt so bad 'cause he didn't last a single minute...  All we got from him was a really bad x-ray that resembled roadkill... NOT teeth.  I can't count how many times I had to chase him down the halls because he'd make a break for the door at any chance he got...  He didn't even pay attention to the movie we put on for him.

Oh, and another thing, was that he thought everything was a peacock...
Example:

Aiden: *pointing* That's a peacock!
Me: No Aiden, that's a toothbrush.
Aiden: Oh...  *points* It's a peacock!
Me: No Aiden, that's the x-ray machine, it takes pictures of your pretty teeth.

And the conversation goes on...

In the beginning, before chaos ruled, I found myself playing with this creepy stuffed animal that was meant to show little kids how to brush properly...

I had WAY too much fun goofing off with it...

Is there anyway that I could look like a seven year old again so that my outside matched my inside?

That was a bad joke...ehehehe...

Question of the Day:  What's you're favorite part of going to the dentist?
Me:  I get anxiety when I go so...  Probably when they say I'm done.

Also, what are some things that I could blog about?

The Science Behind Nail Polish

I happen to be one of those girls that enjoys having her nails painted...  And because of that, a lot of the time I often find myself wondering "how in the world does this stuff work???"

Well, thanks to this magical thing called the internet I found that our average nail polish is made from this stuff called nitrocellulose.

Nitrocellulose is what makes your nails all nice and shiny when they dry.  BUT the stuff is EXTREMELY explosive!!!  So I think the stores have found a way to make it less blowy uppy 'cause I'm not seeing anyone's nails blowing up for no reason.

Now, another question is probably popping up into your brain, "How does the nail polish stick?"

Well, it dries from lots of different resins and plasticizers (which are made of some sort of gross, fatty, acid that I can't spell let alone pronounce...  or castor oil).  But without these, our precious nail polish would crack even MORE easily that it does now!!!!!!!!!!!

Moving onto a certain polish that I'm sure we've ALL gawked at, wondering "HOW DID IT DO THAT" is crackle/shatter nail polish.  Yes, that's right, the stuff that's super duper cool!  You apply and within a good hour it dries, the polish creates a cool "cracked" look.

Crackle nail polish is mostly made of two components, nitrocellulose, and ethanol.  The ethanol is a quick moving substance that does not give the nitrocellulose time to dry "evenly" giving the polish the cool crackle effect.

Ok, one more question: "WHY IN THE WORLD DOES SHELLAC/GEL NAIL POLISH STAY ON LONGER THAN REGULAR NAIL POLISH???????"

First off, shellac isn't even made of the components as regular polish.  Instead, it's made with methacrylate monomers.  It's then mixed with benzoyl peroxide (normally) to help initiate   "hemolytic bond polish" (a process that makes an electron pair to "break off").  A lot of other scientific stuff is also thrown into the mixture as well as their purposes but it honestly confuses me...  And will probably confuse y'all as well...

Anywho, I hope you found this interesting as well as entertaining and educational.  I know I learned a lot, it was hard to figure out how to put everything in my own words...  I had to look up quite a few definitions and different characteristics of the different chemicals.

Question of the day:  What was the most fascinating science topic you have ever learned about?
Me:  Probably that I can make my own rock candy...  I'm hopeless...

Sick... bored ...TIMCANPY

A little fact about me:

I LOVE ANIME!!!!!!!!!!!

Now don't you DARE stop reading cause of that single little sentence!  Now, I bet when you read that you thought of either Pokemon

or Dragon Ball Z...

Honestly....  I'm not a big fan of either...  But you MUST understand!

You see, when someone says they don't like anime, it's like someone saying that they don't like any TV series AT ALL!

Now, I think, that's surely the biggest white lie I've ever heard in my LIFE!!!

Anywho, a few Sundays ago, I was REALLY sick!!!  I had a really bad migraine and I felt like I was going to die.  So when I wasn't sleeping...  I was dying of boredom!!!

My boredom led me to hand-stitching one of my favorite anime characters!  Not only that but he's also my first "real" stuffed animal I've ever made!

His name is Timcanpy ^^

Timcanpy is from my favorite anime show of all time... "D. Gray Man".

D. Gray Man is about a boy who has a deformed left arm, and because of that, his parents left him when he was just a tot.

Pretty soon though, a man called Mana Walker adopts the boy as his own and giving him the name Allen while doing so.  Unfortunately, Mana soon dies from disease leaving poor Allen alone again.  During Allen's moment os grief, a man who calls himself the Millennium Earl tempts Allen with the idea of being able to bring his precious Mana back to life just by simply calling out the loved one by name.

Allen didn't hesitate to call forth too his beloved Mana.  Suddenly, Mana is back but under the Earl's control, but not as himself...  But as a slave to the Earl, which is also known as an akuma.

Angered at Allen for making him a slave, Mana attacks Allen, giving the poor boy a cursed eye that is able to see the akuma's souls and also see how much they're suffering.

Out of all the trauma Allen saw he became frozen in fear.  And right when the newly made akuma (Mana) was about too kill the boy, Allen's left arm suddenly turns into a giant metal claw that destroys the monster in one strike.

Allen was so traumatized by that experience, his hair turned white from shock.  Basically the rest of the show is about Allen trying to destroy the Millennium Earl and stop him from taking over the world.

Anyways, Timcanpy kinda plays the role as Allen's pet and friend.  I really love Tim ^^

I am sure all my friends are SICK AND TIRED of me talking about my Timcanpy plush but HAY!  I love him a lot!  So I hope that they can just deal with the fact that I'm obsessed and still be able to hang with me ^^

Question of the day: What's your favorite TV show?
Me: Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I like Doctor Who, Avatar the Last Airbender, D. Gray Man, Sherlock, and Invader Zim ^^

Salmon Bake

Hello there!!!

Today was just AWESOME!!!

Wanna know why?!  Because today was my neighborhood's once a yearly SALMON BAKE!!!  It's super fun, we go over to the park and play games with the whole neighborhood.  It's like a giant picnic for over a hundred people!!!

It's something I look forward to every year even if I have to deal with a football coming at me every once and a while (I don't know how to play football).

But this year there was one thing I missed...  Our annual salmon toss!!!  It's like a balloon toss but instead of balloons we toss dead salmon.  Sure it stinks (literally) but it's so much fun that it's really hard to notice the smell of dead fish.  Normally afterwards we get to cook up the salmon and eat it.  But this year we didn't do it, I was quite (and still am a bit) sad about that.

Good thing they kept the crab test :D

The carb test is when one man "hypnotizes" a giant crab by rubbing his belly and then places the crab on his head.  It's really cool...  And weird (I love how this year he wore a superman t-shirt).

It's so much fun to be able to bond with my neighborhood even more and become even closer friends with everyone.  I can't wait for next year...  Hopefully next year we can play salmon toss.

Question of the day:
Is there something that your neighborhood does to bond and have fun?

Me:
Salmon Bake ^_^ (<- That's another type of smiley face!)

Update of Life, School Starting, and My New "Study Buddies"

YOLO my peeps!  How goes it?

I'm such a procrastinator!!!  I keep giving y'all empty promises and I feel TERRIBLE!!!  But do you wanna know why I've been a terrible blogger lately?  It's this torturous thing called life. You see, life has a nasty habit of getting in the way of my blogging.  School has just started, and I'm now in a small homeschooling group with my two best friends.  It's been fun but sooooo crazy!!!  And to top it off I've been trying to do stuff to keep this blog how it is (crafty, fun, and me) and not turn it into a boring education blog (that isn't me).  Yup, that's my lame excuse for not blogging.  But even though life is now insanely crazy, I'm having way more fun than I did last year (besides less blogging).

I didn't really know the two girls I homeschool with now, but after two days we've become like the best of friends.  We do almost everything together and have tons of things in common.  For instance, we all LOVE anime, drawing, and writing.  But another thing is that we each have our strengths in different areas, so if one of us is struggling with a subject, we can help each other according to what we're best at.

I'm also trying to learn French again but this time with my new buddies by my side :D
We're hoping to go to France sometime next year during the summer.  And then maybe going to Washington D.C. when we finish the history course.

I have high expectations for this year, and I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be able to update AT LEAST once a week.  And if I don't...  I give you permission to send the one-eyed one-horned flying-purple-people-eater after me.

PS:  My "study buddies" might show up quite a bit in my blog posts now that we never really leave each other's side.

Question of the Day:
How did you meet your best friend?

ME:
My first best friend I met when she was born.  We did tons together...  Until she moved :(

Sourdough Starter

GUESS WHAT EVERYONE?!
TO START OFF THE SCHOOL YEAR, MOM AND I ARE MAKING MORE BACTERIA!!!

MWEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you confused?  Here, let me explain, I have been wanting to make sourdough bread for quite some time now.  And sourdough starter is actually a bacteria...  Gross right?  But no worries, it's a good kind of bacteria like yogurt.  Ok, I think I'm just grossing you out now...

Now we just need to wait till 9:00 tonight to feed it.  Yup, it needs to be fed every 12 hours
...  It's like a little baby or kid...  Just it can't talk (awesome right?!)

Check in tomorrow for more randomly awesome blog posts by moi!

PS: So, I feel like an idiot, telling y'all that I'd get another post up about my month of July ummm...  It might happen but I don't know how to download the pictures from the camera I used.  So that'll have to wait...  Sorry...

Question of the day:
Did you miss me?  And how've you been?

Me:
Nope, I'm stuck with myself...
I've been great, though I miss blogging a TON!!!!

An Update Before Busness

WOWZERS!

It's been a while since I've posted!

These last few weeks have been just been filled with the lemons life gives you.  Well I've succeeded in making some sour lemonade, I'm hoping to make it sweeter by getting back into the groove of things and continue blogging about my abnormal life.

Anywho, this week I'm going to blog about what I have been doing for the past month.

So far I've:

Had a marvelous week at Girl's Camp

Visited St. George (Utah)

Toured Zion's National park

zion-national-park-35.jpg

Saw two plays at the Tuacahn: Aladdin and my personal favorite, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Magic+Carpet+Ride.jpg172339036.336.255.jpg

And two days later Mom and Dad left for a drive around Utah and this whole week has been filled to the brim with stuff.  One day was so busy that we were in the car for six hours!  Yeah, the kids weren't happy with that.

Question of the day:
What have you been doing for the past month?

Me:
Read the above...  AND tune in tomorrow for another funderful episode of Star Trek...  Hehe, just kidding, Heidi's Alli is the actual name.

Colonial Days (Orem, Utah)

On Saturday, my family and I went to a festival called Colonial Days to celebrate the Fourth of July.  It was super fun!  There were a lot of booths filled to the brim with stuff from when America first came to be.  Before America became its own country, we were a British Colony (well, technically 13 colonies). In one of the booths, you could try on the armor they had to wear back then.  It totally reminded me of the type of armor medieval knights would wear.  It was SUPER heavy and HOT!  The man there told a story of a soldier who actually melted in his armor.  Glad that wasn't me!!!

Next we learned a bit about the Mayflower and the perilous journey the Pilgrims made across the Atlantic Ocean to the promised land: America.  That boat was only 80 feet long and I think 20 feet across.  There were about 180 people on it.  So imagine living on the first floor of your house with 179 of your not-so-closest friends for 3 months, plus all their belongings, animals, food, etc.  AND they had to stay on the boat for another 3 months after landing at Plymouth because they landed in December.  Not quite a beautiful, balmy season...  I think they should have chosen a different time to sail.  They must have REALLY been in a VERY BIG HURRY to get out of England!

Next we went to the Haberdashery, a booth where you could try on colonial-style clothing that people wore back then.  Audrey had a blast trying the dresses on.  (So did I...)  They were pretty hot, and I didn't even have on the corset, petticoat, hoop skirt, or any of that extra stuff.  WHEW!!  I am so glad I live in this century!

After that we tried fresh bread and cookies from the bakery.  I had a sourdough roll (which was my favorite), hardtack (a special kind of bread the soldiers ate.  They call it hardtack because by the time the bread arrived at their camp, it was super hard, but since ours was fresh it was quite soft.), and a Frogger Joe, a type of molasses cookie that tasted a lot like a gingerbread cookie.  YUM!  The vendors used actual colonial recipes for all of their baked goods.  I want to learn how to make some!!!

Then, I joined a fake debate on whether or not we should dump the tea into the harbor.  It was really funny and fun.  We were assigned characters and lines so that the debate was quite heated, filled with cries of, "Hazzah!" and some other cry.  I have no idea what either meant, but it sure was fun to yell them!  In the end, I got to march with the other "patriots" and shoot imaginary people with my wooden gun and dump imaginary tea into an imaginary harbor.

I also got to go to a colonial school.  This might sound weird, but it was kind of fun, even though I was the oldest kid there by about 5 years...  I guess it was a one-room schoolhouse!  I got to re-learn my alphabet, how to count to 10, how to correctly write the letter "B" on my slate and solve some arithmetic problems.  I also learned that King George looks a lot like George Washington.  Must be the powdered wig, red coat, same pose... and same name!!!  Except the Washington part, but hey, who really cares about minor details...

Unfortunately, I was quite a naughty student and wound up in the front of the classroom, sitting on a stool, and wearing a dunce hat.  Just kidding!  I was actually a model student but really wanted to sit in the dunce seat!

Question of the day:
Have you been to any fun festivals, carnivals, etc this year?  Are there any others that you'd like to do?

Me:
Yep, this one.  I'd really like to go to the Festival of Colors.

How to Fix Nasty Barbie Hair

How many of you have wanted to get rid of nasty My Little Pony or Barbie hair but didn't know how?

ME!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to the lovely site called Pinterest, I figured out the secret to make Barbie's hair pretty again.

YAY!!!

How to make your Barbie's hair pretty again:

Step one:  Fill a bowl with super hot water (hot chocolate hot).

Step two:  Place your Barbie's (or pony's) hair inside that bowl and let it soak for thirty seconds.

Step three:  Brush your Barbie's hair (starting from the bottom; it'll make brushing so much easier) with a small tooth comb (or a "Barbie brush") until all tangle monsters (or whatever you call them) are out.

As a last resort:  If you're stuck on a knot that just won't come out, then cut your Barbie's hair.  Yes, you heard me...  Or read me, cut the stupid Barbie hair.  It's not going to kill you if you give Barbie a trim...  Or a new look.

Step four:  Style your Barbie's renewed hair.  You'll be amazed at how much better it feels and looks.

Question of the day:
When was the first time you cut hair?

Me:
I was about four.  I was styling my cousin's long, thick, curly locks with a tiny round brush.  It kinda got stuck, so, being one to solve problems on my own, I cut it out.  Then I decided to cut a few other "chunks" out as well to make it symmetrical.  Long story short (eh-em, no pun intended), my Aunt Karen had to take her to a salon to "fix" my stylish creation.  Needless to say, it ended up getting cut about 1 inch long all around her head.  I don't think Aunt Karen liked me very much for a while after that...
